Fish Awarded £170,000 in Civil Action

8th December, 2005

Ex-Marillion front-man, and solo artist, Fish has been awarded £170,000 in compensation by a civil court in Scotland.

Fish, whose real name is Derek Dick, successfully sued a former employee who was accused of stealing almost £70,000 from him. Kim Waring, his ex-office-manager, stole the money by siphoning it off through CD orders that she personally failed to honour, instead keeping the money that Fish's fans sent in for the mail-order album "Field of Cows".

Fish was quoted as being "horrified" that this amount of money was stolen, but was told by police that the best way of retrieving the money that he personally had to pay in order to fulfil the missing orders, was to take civil action.

Kim Waring failed to mount a defence against the singer, and was ordered by the court to pay £68,000 to replace the missing cash, and a further £100,000 in damages.

The singer, aged 48, currently resides in Haddington near Edinburgh, Scotland. He left the band Marillion at the end of the 1980's to continue his successful solo career.
